Nursing Error

The view of a nursing error varies widely among nurses. What is your view of a nursing error?
what would you call a nursing error??Medication?Judgement?Time management?Conflict of Interest?Conflict with other nurses?I would say the list is endless and would depend on the perception of nursing error by the person

I am looking for the perception of the nurse and what their view is.

I think it depends on the type of error. If we are talking med errors, I say everyone makes mistakes and they happen. Now if it is an error that occurred out of laziness or negligence than that is unacceptable.

I'm not really clear on what you're asking, OP. "Nursing error" is a very broad category. Some things are honest mistakes, nurses are humans. Other things are completely avoidable and the result of someone not doing his/her job.

Anything you did that was not: intended or according to policy/procedure. Nurses are human beings - human beings make mistakes -- ergo, nurse mistakes are unavoidable.

I'm just looking for opinions form nurses as to what they consider a nursing error.

How about the choice of nursing as a career? Could that be considered to be an error?

The answer will be different from probably each and every nurse you ask. Heck, it could be different depending on the day you ask the same nurse. Too subjective to gather any quantifiable data OP...sorry. Why don't you start by telling us what you think constitutes a nursing error, and give us a specific scenario.

I made a nursing error the other night- it was from pure laziness, I admit it. My 13 month old daughter woke up for her middle of the night snack- I brought her into bed with my hubby and I, and was too dang lazy to put her back in the crib, so she chug a lugged to her hearts content and I slept. That was my nursing error.
