Which do you prefer?Rating: (votes: 0) As of right now, I am working 3 12's on a cardio/tele unit. Although I really enjoy the cardiology/tele aspect, and don't mind the 12's, I hate weekends and holidays. My husband and I don't get to see eachother as much as we would like because our scheules never seem to line up. So, I applied and got hired in our GI center, where I will work 5 8's, no nights/weekends/holidays! This will be the first time I have worked 8's, so I really hope I like them!! Comment:
Love 3-11! If I can't get that then 12 hours.

I prefer night shift and work both 8's and 12's. I like them both but prefer not to do two 12's in a row. I usually do 8, 12, 8, 12 then a 3 day weekend F-Sun off as we have two weekend program night shift RN's.

Neither. I prefer my days off.

I work in ER and prefer 12's, as many as I can in a row to maximize my time off, during season our triage nurses work 16's, I've pulled a few of those and they aren't bad once in a while but not on a regular basis.

Outside ICU my hospital runs an 8/8/10 roster: 0700-1530, 1300-32130 and 2100-0730. The day time double staffing time is used for ward meetings, education and care planning.

I work in a NICU and I work 12s. I'm part time somewhat. I work 2 12s one week 3 the next. This works for me, we do self scheduling and at least once every 6 weeks I am off for 8 days. I've not used any PTO since starting this schedule. I prefer 12s because I love the fact that I am off more days that I work. I would go nuts if I only had 2 days off a week.

I was just going to some research about this subject as far as best practice/evidence-based practice to see what is best for pt, nurse, hosp.Senior nursing student here

Would love to do 3 12's, 7a-7p. That would be my ideal schedule. The WORST schedule (imo) is five, 8 hour shifts on 3-11. Yuck.
