Nursing listed as 4th on a list of fun jobs.Rating: (votes: 0) This kinda made me laugh. Any thoughts? Ugh. I googled the career coach quoted in this stupid article. The guy's website says he's not a career coach, but a 'passion catalyst'. My soul is cringing. Comment:

Quote from MeriwhenThey must have talked to a psychiatric nurse. You can't make up the stuff that we get to see every day.

Just spilt my coffee all over my computer. We are listed with a travel writer and fashion designer. People believe this stuff.....no wonder these poor new grads are shocked when the graduate.

Consider the source (read: Yahoo article). The author is not exactly a beacon of award-winning journalism. This is third-hand 'news' with an ulterior motive. Enough said. . .
Comment:
Yahoo career "articles" are written by a company that recruits students for colleges and trade schools. Objective journalism has no place, it's about steering prospective students to the advertising schools.

Is this same Yahoo that allowed someone to post that silly op ed piece about the nurse who didn't help a student having an asthma attack? (OK, I know this one is from Yahoo "Education"--but it still says Yahoo at the top). Anyway, they have pretty much lost all credibility with me.

One final thought from me. . .1. If you consider death and dying fun, then nursing is for you.2. If you consider pain and anguish fun, then nursing is for you.3. If you think verbally abusive families are fun, nursing is for you.4. If exposure to infectious diseases is fun, then nursing is for you.5. If the possibility of career-ending injuries sounds fun, nursing is for you.6. If being viewed as an 'expense' that detracts from the bottom line sounds fun, nursing is for you.7. If dealing with condescending doctors seems fun, then nursing is for you.8. If stress and burnout sound like a lot of fun, then nursing is for you.

The least they could do is talk to people in the profession to get some kind of idea of what it's really like. They make it sound like nurses just sit around and socialize with the patients while occasionally giving them meds. I also don't see how nurses have such a flexible schedule that allows them so much time for fun outside of work. Between the days working, the days on call, and the days management wants us to come in on our days off, no, there isn't a lot of time left to do what we want. Here's another thing to consider: without that MD behind your name, you're nothing but an uneducated, easily replacable staff member who doesn't matter to the company. Yeah, I guess being a nurse is pretty fun

What is he smoking?Fun factors: Nurses often work directly with patients, so this interaction could allow you to get creative, crack jokes, and remain upbeat, all while administering medicines and organizing important details.

You mean playing in infected body fluids isn't fun?? and we're not having fun yet? and lets not forget the exotic aromas we are exposed to all day every day- I don't know about all of you- but I prefer a walk through the units in any given hospital to going into a Bath and Body Works

O.M.G. Work is called WORK for a reason. And not only that but on many occasions the people you are "sitting around and socializing with" (as if!) are not people you want to be doing that with!!!!
