Why nursing was for me...

I knew from the time I was a little girl I wanted to be a nurse. But this was not the road after HS graduation because I have epilepsy. So I went for art. I was really good too. Later after I had my kids I found out there was no more tolerance for this, so I went into nursing. Got my LPN and worked for 8 yrs. Then I became that nurse to my dying dad, the very one who called me "little nurse".

Comment:
This was a fantastic insight into the deep compassion nurses have for their jobs, and how rewarding it really is. I have just graduated highschool, and have recently been accepted into my dream course - Bach of Nursing/Midwifery. This dream came about when I was 11 years old, diagnosed with a coarcted aorta, and had to receive heart surgery soon after. Scary enough for an adult...but when you're twelve? The surgery was followed by months of recovery- and this was where I knew I wanted to be a nurse. The amount of care and support the nurses gave me was astounding. I mean sure, it was a doctor who performed the surgery, but the nurses who really kept me alive. The nurses went above and beyond their call of duty - it was so much more then a just a job to them - never have I seen a bunch of adults care so much for their patients, and to see how they enjoyed it was pleasing. If it were not to be for the nurses, putting so much into making my family and I feel comfortable and cared for, I may not be living this dream today. Just 4 more years of study and Ill be a certified Nurse/Midwife. Thankyou for sharing this story, I honestly cannot wait till the day I can give my experience and advice to younger aspiring nurses just as you have.
