Kind of New Grad

Hi All,
I graduated May 2012 as an RN but I was also pregnant. I waited until I went on leave to apply for jobs. I had a couple interviews but with no luck. I have been told that they need someone with RN experience. Majority of my classmates have jobs and here I am more than a year later still looking. Oh I forgot to mention that I am an LPN with 8 yrs of experience, I have work in a hospital, assisted living, and ambulatory. I don't know what the problem is. Then I had to postpone my job hunt again because I recently gave birth again. I am soo FRUSTRATED.
Have you looked at attempting PRN--maybe somewhere where you were an LPN? Even part time weekends? That could be a starting point.

Did you disclose that you were pg or that you have babies? I have been hearing quite a few stories lately about women being discriminated against due to pregnancy, although it is difficult to prove.

HAHA! That sounds like my story! I graduated in may 2011 and gave birth a few weeks after and a few days after I got my license in the mail. I gave myself a good three months to recoop before i started my job hunt. I got a job after 2 months but lost that job 3 months into orientation. It took a full year to find another job and I felt like such a loser because all the people I went to school had been working for two years and I was still a new grad. Unlike you though, I have chosen not to have another baby until I am a working RN - only because I know I cant job hunt while pregnant or wtih a new born. Don't worry. There are lots of new grads out there who are years out and haven't found work yet and they can't fall back on having a kid when asked in an interview for an explanation for the gaps in employment. To explain that year between my first job and second job, I say I decided to stay home with my infant son instead of that I got fired and couldnt find another job. Just keep your chin up.
