Nursing hours all part time?

I was just browsing RN jobs at hospitals and a lot of them are only 20-28 hrs per week except for ER. Are most nursing jobs at hospitals only part-time? How does one pay the bills with a part-time job or do a lot of people take two part-time jobs?

cuts down on OT

Some people would work the part-time hours and pick up extra shifts anywhere in the hospital they can get them to make up the difference. Another option is to work as occassional at a different hospital to get the extra shifts. Two part-time jobs might not work due to scheduling issues, both during the week and on weekends.

Some hospitals are going to part time jobs so they don't have to pay as much in benefits, don't have to guarantee full time hours, etc.

Less benefits for part time people. It is all about the money. Follow the money and you will always find the answers to why a system is doing something.

Not in TN. Part-time is virtually non-existent except for per-diem and agency. I would love to work part-time, but the job market isn't here.

there is still some part-time/prn in mississippi particularly to central ms. seems alot of new grads are having to settle for part time/prn stuff. im lucky to have a fulltime spot (84hrs) and 2 very good partime and prn jobs around 24-36hrs per period. some hospitals are getting away from fulltimers and just using partime/prn new grads..this way they dont have to offer bennefits. i was informed by a manager this is a way they can take advantage of the increased flux of grads and get labor on the cheap.
