how may staff should there be if there are 12 palliative clients and are intellectual disabled ranging from 50-85 years, is it reasonable enough to have 3 ( 2 carers and 1 nurse) from 8 PM till 11 PM and then 2 (1 carer and a nurse) staff for the remainder of the shift, that means from 11 PM till 8 AM?
It's impossible to answer this question without more information on the acuity level of these patients and the licensure of the nurses-- RN, LPN? If you have concerns that staffing is inadequate on your unit, whom did you ask about it there, and what happened?

I am not sure what you mean by intellectual disabled, but I work in a palliative inpatient unit and from 7 am to 11 pm we have 1 RN, 1 LPN, and 1 Care Aide for 12 patients. From11 pm to 7 am we have 1 RN and 1 LPN for the same patients. This is very doable, and safe. Rarely have we had to have extra staff for 1:1 etc. We are not overstuffed, but I feel it is just about the right ratios.
