Nursing in Sports

I am a new member and am currently working on researching the importance of nurses on sports teams. While there is very little research and very little information out there; I am looking for what other nurses think our profession would have to add to a medical team of physicians when it comes to sports teams and athletes! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Be sure to analyze the scope of practice for athletic trainers. They perform all the traditional 'nurse' functions under the supervision of a physician.
