Changing nursing specialties

I have spent the last 3.5 years working in general surgical nursing (ward). I loved the variety. We have moved to Australia and I am working in a surgical ward. I feel like I need a change from surgical nursing and I am not sure if this ward is really what I want to do.

The reason we moved was to try new and exciting challenges and I want to expand my nursing knowledge and skills. I would really like to try working in an acute setting such as ED and have recently applied for a position, however, how will I know if I am going to enjoy it? Can anyone relate to me wanting to change areas in nursing??? Surgical nursing has been great and given me so many skills and nursing knowledge. I'm at the stage where I don't know what field to follow or do.

I would want to make sure I receive the right support and guidance if I was offered a position in an ED, how could I ensure this happens?
