getting a job in another state?

If you've moved out of state for work, what was the application/interview/hiring process like? Did you get hired before you moved? If so, did you do a phone or skype interview, or did you have to fly there and interview in person? How far in advance of moving did you start sending applications?

Did you run into problems finding work as an out of state applicant, i.e. people not taking you seriously because they might think you weren't serious about moving and/or might change your mind? If so, any advice for overcoming that potential bias?

(applying for PRN pools, not a FT/staff position, idk if that makes any difference re: the interview/hiring process.)
I had almost a year experience and applied for a FT L&D position in Raleigh, NC. It took a while(like 5-6 weeks?) before I got a phone call for an interview. I applied online and already had my NC license because I knew we wanted to move for sure to the area. I was given the option of a phone or in person interview and I chose to interview over the phone b/c we were leaving for vacation soon and honestly I didn't want to dip into my savings to fly to NC for an interview. I started applying I think in about Feb and we wanted to move after the kids finished the school year in the end of May. I didn't run into any problems, but I do think that most people want to interview you in person b/c they can get a feel for you.ETA I got my job offer in April and we moved in May after the kids finished school.

I didn't really have much of a problem when I moved for my first job. They did require an in-person interview. I interviewed in another state recently and got that job - they required me to come in and interview. I am about to call them to cancel that position. I am now looking to go to a completely different state again - I have already had my HR interview and phone interview, and they want me to come up for an in-person interview as well. It seems like most places do want to interview you in person, whether you're a long-distance applicant or not.

Thanks for the info! That is helpful. The interviews I had for the PRN work I have now - one was over the phone, and one was in person and literally lasted 10 minutes; both places basically just wanted to know if i could work weekends!
