A change of direction from nursing to ?

I have completed my pre-req's for an aBSN (have a BA in Psychology) and have decided to discontinue this pursuit. I have developed a few physical problems due mainly to sports and find that I can no longer be on my feet for very long. For three years the doctors have been telling me to be patient, stick with the physical therapy, etc., etc., and it will improve, but no dice. I hate the thought of all that studying down the drain and would like to find something in healthcare that will not require quite as much walking and standing as nursing so I've looked into a few possibilities and wonder what others in similar predicaments have done. I liked the patient contact aspect of previous volunteer stints and have little interest in teaching or managerial possibilities. In other words, I'd like to be a nurse, but it isn't practical. I've looked into cardiac perfusion, prosthetics/orthotics, physical therapy and more. What have other's done? I don't want to be in school for more than another 2 years as I'm old and impatient. What about an ultrasound tech? Coding and Billing specialist? Neither of those require hours on foot.

I'm somewhat in a similar situation though I have had my nursing degree forever. Won't be able to tolerate the physical aspect of it any longer. I've looked into a lot of different areas wanting to be able to use the knowledge/degree I have and two things have sort of popped out at me. One is something to do with computers/IT though you probably wouldn't be around people as much. Lot's of 2 yrs or less degree options and I'd think a guaranteed job without the physical stress. The other would be like a Wellness Coach or something similar. Are you opposed to continuing your psychology degree? I mean maybe you could do counseling or consulting.One of my huge passions is making jewelry. I've discovered a college actually right where I live that trains people. So...and yes completely out of the healthcare field!...I'm going to look into that AND I'm going to get a certificate or Associate's degree in website design.Anyway. At least you have the pre-reqs done that can apply to other areas. Good luck to you!!
