New Job...New Career

I'm a RN of over 25 years. Worked in Med-Sur,ONC, Peds and Geriatics. Have always been slower than many, but meticulous in med pass catching med transcriptional errors and inconsistencies more than some. Have excellent assessment skills, good clinical judgement paired with compassion and good team work ethic. Problem is I have chronic health issues which have resulted in frequent call outs (1 every 3or more months), residual memory issues resultant from past CVA (and the MD says "age", ) past LE injury resultant in recurrent painfulness and periodic impaired gait. currently working in rehab/LTC on a very busy unit. Also have care of an aging parent. I'm doing the best I can under the circumstances, but not my best. I know I sound like a nursing home resident myself, but I still believe I have a lot to contribute to the nursing field. Any suggestions on jobs, or is another career the best bet?
What about a case manager type of position? Or insurance nursing (reviewing claims)? Or a clinic, where you might do more triage and less "bedside" type stuff? How about working in hospice and doing home visits? Do you need to make a certain amount of money? If not, consider PRN and per diem work in any area of nursing. I think you can still be a valuable contributor to the field of nursing!

You will be amazed what 25 years of nursing experience qualifies you to do.Many , many employers seek your skills.Think outside the box.. just a little.Seek work from home, alternate positions, etc. on this site and major job boards.PM me if it will help.Good luck... you CAN do this.

Thank you mluvsgnc and "been there done that" for your suggestions and words of encouragement. To be honest I had been getting a bit discouraged. Some younger nurses seemed to work circles around m, though some still had to seek me out for information or when residents got into trouble. . I am looking into just the fields you suggested, but for a minute there wondered whether I was too worn out to be effective even in those areas. Thanks again for the encouragement.
