How many careers did you have before becoming a nurse?

What careers were they and what drew you to nursing?
I started working on my nursing degree fresh out of high school. So I never had a previous career per se. While in nursing school I worked as a CNA.

no careers, but plenty of jobs. I worked as receptionist in MD office, then insurance clerk, then tech, then transcriptionist-finally decided t go to nursing school because it seemed the most logical considering my work background. Glad I did!

I was a paralegal, then a proofreader, a camp counselor & babysitter, a receptionist.... Way too many jobs. My degrees are paralegal, English and MBA. I'm now currently in Nursing school to become a psych nurse. Psych has always been on the back burner, just never knew how exactly I wanted to get into it. Now I know!

First degree is a B.A. and worked as a Senior Research Analyst for a consumer research company in their project management department. I enjoyed what I did for a long time but knew I wanted something much more fulfilling. My former boss was the one to write my college recommendation for my ABSN program. He was happy to know I graduated and became a nurse.

I worked with horses most of my adult life, from about 16. I also worked for a large animal vet and thought about vet school (Bio degree-pre-vet) so I have a history of liking medicine. After I had kids in my late 30s, decided I need a more stable (no pun intended) career and went back to school to be a teacher. After a few years of that, (4 to be exact) I did not get tenure b/c in NC they treat teachers like garbage-I was a non-tenured Masters teacher=$$$-so I went back to school again and got my ADN, working on BSN right now. Nursing is a good mix of the two careers I had: medicine and teaching. I don't know if I would have been ready, but I do wish I had gone into nursing earlier (got my ADN @ 48). I love nursing.

I studied Psychology during my undergrad and after graduating I got a job at a spa (I work at the front desk). I always knew that I was interested in healthcare but I knew I didn't want to go to medical school. In college a close friend of mine recommended nursing, she was totally on par! Although my current career seems completely different from nursing I've learned a whole lot about communicating with/dealing with people. I'm currently applying to accelerated BSN programs.Nursetobe25 what career are you transitioning from?
