starting a nursing career

Hi. I am new to this site.I will give a quick backround. I have been an lpn for four years and just got the rn license in march. Problem is,
there is no nursing shortage in northern nj so all I have been working is for private duty agencies which are a gimmick when in comes to benefits. I have applied even to nursing homes and was never given a call back. Even as an lpn i started out doing pdn and got stuck because of the overflow of nurses. So, my question is, is starting out as a pdn going to kill my chances of ever working in a hospital or even a nursing home? I would have to do this for a year untill i move to texas next june.
