Change From Nutrition to Nursing.

Hello. This is my situation. I am 43 and have a A.A.S in Dietitics. I have been a stay at home mom for 10 years. I have school age children and I am ready to get back to work. I have had some clinical experience. I wasn't happy with the carreer I chose. The pay wasn't the best, hated hair nets. I loved the clinical aspect. I really enjoyed helping the patients. I was thinking about becoming a nurse. I am worried that for one I am too old to start something new. Will it be difficult for me to go through nursing school. I was a horrible test taker to begin with. How long will it take me to complete the courses. Will I be hirable ( if thats a word.LOL) I figure I have 2 years before my kids are old enough to be ok in school all day. That would be the time I would go to school myself. I am afraid of needles so that part might hold me back. How do I start the process. Study for the entrance exam. I am so confused of what and how to go about all this. Any advice in how to pursue my new carreer?
I am in the same situation with you, except I am almost done with nursing. I have a BS in general dietetics, and I am working as a nutritionist consultant. I am planning to combine the degrees and work for the community as an educator. I love nursing so much more though. Good luck to you.
Of course it's not too late! :smackingfI would suggest going to the local college you plan on attending and find out more info about what they require. Start taking your pre-reqs in the Spring and go from there. Start slow and ease into it with one class and see how you feel about it.Good Luck!
I agree that you need to talk to your local college. Becoming a nurse can take up to three to four years these days, longer if there is a waiting list.You need to also listen to how you talk to yourself "I'm too old, I'm a poor test taker, I'm afriad of needles".....this kind of stuff dooms you from the start.
