Being Reported to the Board of Nursing....Need Advice

Hello everyone, I really need some advice right now. I'm being reported to the board of nursing for an incident at work. I can't go into detail but the patient was not harmed. I'm an experienced nurse who made a mistake. I had a peer review and the nurses at the peer review had concluded that I went against the nursing practice. What do I need to do to prepare myself for the board. I have nothing negative in my file at work and my last eval was among the best. Should I get a lawyer?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

You need to contact your malpractice insurance carrier immediately and obtain legal counsel. You can find an attorney through TAANA, The American Assn of Nurse Attorneys. That being said, we can not provide legal advice here per the TOS.
I hope you have your own malpractice insurance, which will cover legal representation in situations like this. If you've been depending on your employer's coverage to protect you, you'll have to pay out of pocket for any legal expenses (your employer is not going to pay for any assistance when their internal investigation has already decided that you acted inappropriately). Personally, I would never consider dealing with a BON without the assistance of an experienced (in this specific area) attorney. Best wishes for a positive outcome ...
Just want to thank ya'll for the advice. I work in a hospital were there are lots of problems. I'm already in contact with a couple of people who are very helpful.

if you have your own malpractice insurance, get out the policy and call them immediately for a list of attorneys,,,if you dont have your own malpractice insurance,,get one from your area,,,,,do not wait,,,do not berate yourself,,,,there are plenty of others who are willing to do that for you,,,,we are all human and make errors,,,hang in there,,,,
