Nursing Volunteer Oppurtunites

I am currently a sophmore at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I am going to be applying for tradtional BSN for the Fall 2011 school year. I have yet to do any major volunteering at a hospital. I am afraid that because of this it may deter me from gettting into nursing school. Does anyone have any advice? Is it imperative that I voulunteer at a hospital?
