Career Changer...starting out as a PCA and I have questionsRating: (votes: 0) A bit about myself... I have a Masters and Undergrad degree in non-nursing subjects. I have decided to make a career change and would like to become a nurse. I just landed a job as a Patient Care Technician working full time nights. I am pretty nervous about this. Tips on working nights are welcome!! I am also a mom to 2 little ones under the age of 4. I have taken some pre-reqs for nursing but I"m at a roadblock - 1. do I go ADN or BSN - the BSN programs in my area are full-time and expensive. I think the BSN would be better but the cost is huge and I wouldn't be able to work. I think working at a hospital would help me get a job once I have my degree. Plus, I have 2 additonal degrees. I understand they have NOTHING to do with nursing, but could I be hired as a ADN with a B.A. and a M.S.? 2. How do you handle working nights with small kids? How will i stay awake? 3. For those of you nurses who worked as a PCT/Nurse's aide before school - did you find your work experience helpful to you in school or do you wish you just had by-passed this and went to school and never worked? I'm 32 so I don't want to waste time. and money..I''m trying to make smart choices that will help me become a good nurse and get a job. many thanks in advance for your help |
