NICU as a new grad?

I am graduating in May with my RN and I am trying to decide if I should work on a general med surg floor to gain experience for a couple years or go right into working the NICU. They have a new grad position available where I am applying. I just not sure what the best thing to do is....Did anyone go straight into an ICU/NICU without experience as a nurse?
If NICU is what you want to do, then I think you should go straight to NICU. Med-surg is so different, I don't see how it would be that beneficial if your goal is NICU anyway.
My friend went straight to NICU and loves it. Go for what you want; you're going to get a lot of people shutting it down and telling you to go to med surg first to "perfect your skills" but you learn completely different ones in NICU and if NICU is what you want, go for it. Good luck!!
