going back to hospital nursing?

It has been almost 8 years since I worked in a hospital (NICU nurse). I have worked in state government since then and completed my masters. I am facing a dilemma with my current work situation and family needs. I have 3 kids under the age of 5 and have to work part-time. I work 2 days/week. But when you look at what I make and the cost of childcare, it's not much money that I bring home!
There is a potential opportunity for me to work per diem at a local hospital. This is not my career track, BUT it pays a lot more money and offers a lot more flexibility. And who knows if they would even hire me since it's been awhile since I did hospital nursing.
I need some advice! Should I stick to my current job and when the kids are in school it will get better or do I take a leap now and hope for the best? Thanks!
