Can a new RN grad take a job as a nurses' aide?

Hi, I will be graduating in June and hope to take the NCLEX-RN right away. I have heard alot about the grisly job market... there are 5 RN programs in a 75 mile radius of where I live. I was wondering if it is acceptable/legal/ethical to take a job as a nurses' aide while I am job-searching for an RN-position. I have my CNA license which was required for my RN program. I am a single parent and after school ends I want to get right to work. I am sure I can hone my time-management skills as a CNA and I really want to work in the healthcare environment rather than falling back on my background as a waitress! (I do love waitressing though!) Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Check with your state BON. In TX, licensed nurses cannot work in unlicensed positions. I know that it seems like any job would be better than none, but this would put you in a really bad situation. No matter what your job description says, you would be legally and ethically bound to act within the scope of your licensure - essentially trying to serve 2 masters (employer & BON). The employer could "only" fire you, but problems with the BON would jeopardize everything you have worked for. IMO, not worth it. If you need a job to make ends meet until you get a nursing position, it's better to look outside of health care.
Comment:
Oh, good point! I hadn't thought about being held to the RN standard of care while working as a nurse's aide. I am going to check out my state's BON (board of nursing, right?) and see what it says. I am assuming I would find it under my state's Nurse Practice Act... but anyway, it's not good news. I will just have to hustle to find an RN job like everyone else seems to be doing. Thanks for the reply.
