Is it a mistake if I take a year and a half off?

I worked on an LTAC floor for 2 years as an RN, it was my first RN job. I've quit that job b/c eventually want to get onto a tele/med surg floor would like to leave long term care.
Im now sitting at home working on my BSN, if goes well should get it in 1.5 years. I've been unsuccessful applying for even a nursing home or home health job in my area. Should I just stay home for 1.5 years and work on my BSN in hopes I will be more marketable in the future? Thanks
Depends on what you want to do, but I would say "no" since you're asking. Being out of nursing only makes you less marketable, not more marketable (though people go back into nursing after SAH with kids all of the time). Could you still stay PRN at LTAC until you find something, and maybe, even then, stay PRN at the LTAC as a nicety for them taking you back?
No b/c the ltac is in another state, and where I am now can't even get a prn nursing home job
Absolutely not. IMO, you're not taking 18 months off from nursing.
In the current economy it would be in your best interest to work.
In my humble opinion, taking an 18-month stretch of time off without any type of gainful employment will amount to career suicide during these sluggish economic times. I would at least seek a PRN job or part-time position while you pursue the BSN degree. Good luck to you.
