Travel Nursing

I've been an RN for almost 5 years now. I've worked 3 1/2 years in labor and delivery, and planned to try and work in a fertility clinic for numerous personal reasons. If I don't feel like the clinic would be a good fit for me, and decide after 6 months or so I would like to travel would agencies still be interested in me because I have been off the floor for 6 months? What are travel agencies' policies regarding taking intermediate/advanced fetal monitoring courses?
Are you wondering if the travel agencies would pay for the course? If so, you would need to discuss it with those employers. I have not come across any travel agencies that fund continuing education or pay for time spent in educational activities that are not specifically required by the nurse's contract - and those are negotiated with the contracting hospital. My advice? Go ahead and obtain that continuing ed before you leave your current employer. Obtaining some AWHONN certifications would be a very valuable asset because these are recognized by everyone as validation of nursing expertise. Their website has a lot of online options for education Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)
