I'm not nursing right now and i have written many post on the subject. I work in a factory and it's a world wide company matter of fact it's a house hold name. I'm a machinist. I run CNC machine's program set up and so on. I'm making more money as a machinist then i did as a LPN. I'm also in school i want to be a Herbalist. I'm also a Hypnotherapist and a Massage therapist, i also do Reiki, Tantra, and Quantum Healing, as well as Acupressure, When i go back to Nursing i want go in to Holistic Nursing. And to answer your question ( Why would they be on this website) Well because we still have thoughts and feelings and most of all we have a brain and we just might help other people with problems or questions. These are my thoughts use them as you wish.

I was thinking maybe the OP meant: "Do you have another job outside of nursing while you are still working as a nurse" I must have read it wrong.

I went back to school as a career changer and a second degree seeker. That said, if something fell in my lap, after I complete the program, that I'd rather be doing aside from nursing then yeah I'd pursue it.

Im working at the 'happiest place on earth' while looking for my next LPN job, its a nice break although not as muchmoney as a nursing job...but its a job with income. Im even going to somehow keep the job when I get anthoer nursing job because its so much fun.

I love the happiest place on Earth I took care of a "former" LPN who was working at a factory now. She said it was because of $$$. She said she's kept her license active just in case.Another nurse friend of mine waitresses on the side.

I work part time from home for a magazine. It pays my bills while I"m looking for a nursing job. I hope I will be able to hold on to this job after I find a nursing job too, since the starting salaries are a lot lower than I anticipated.

I'm getting there..I'm working as a psych RN but I'm in grad school getting my Masters of Social Work I'm loving every second. I do anticipate keeping my RN license active as a last resort fall back option.

I have, in the past, worked outside of my Nursing job. From 1996 through 2003, I worked as a Fee-lance Artist. I painted several murals, over a half a dozen for the Local Community Theater, one on a buiding in a newby town, and one in the local Shopping Mall. I also did Street Cartooning, Charicatures at Social Gatherings, etc. I did get back in to it, in Feb 2008, for a production of "To Kill A Mockingbird". I've done several Shows, some entirely my own, and a lot with other Community Artists. When my present position became available, I more or less gave up the Public Art thing. I am making more money working in my present position than I did in my previous positions with the income of my Art combined. So, I gave up the Public Art thing, since it took a lot of my time and energy and became more work than pleasure. Now I do my Art for my own self-gratifaction. Art is one of my top drugs of choice. Thanks for asking, OhLookItsRalph, RN.Dave

Hello. I agree with other writers that some nurses work outside of the nursing field for a variety of reasons. After working as a professional nurse for 35 years, I had significant health changes and unfortunately discovered that I had to work in non-nursing jobs to pay my bills for a few years until my retirement. I tried to consider that work phase as a learning experience. I worked in a couple of interesting jobs as a telephone recruiter for blood donors at the American Red Cross and as a staff member at a day care center. Best wishes!
