The Philosophy of NursingRating: (votes: 0) i am a student in the asn program and need to write my first paper on the philosophy of nursing. there are four main components that must be included: who man/patient must be? health- what is it to you? what role the environment plays in nursing? what is nursing? i am from the other country and find it somewhat difficult to write this paper. anyone, any thoughts? thanks ![]() Just curious if you have to write the paper in English?I think this would be a very interesting paper because I find myself reflecting often about how nursing straddles many different disciplines, you have to be a scientist, nutritionist, educator, patient advocate, critical thinker, researcher, and on and on. And you have to be able to do any one of those roles at the drop of a hat. Some of the things nurses have to do is quiet amazing, just yesterday a nurse friend of mine had to go from being an educator about diabetes to a newly diagnosed pt to being a student/researcher looking up a rare GI disease and surgery of a pt she was going to get shortly. Teacher and student in a manner of a few hours lol! But that's what nursing is: dynamic. Comment:

The school is asking you to write about how you define those four components and nursing -- what your ideas and personal philosphy of nursing are. This is a v. common assignment in US nursing programs. Good luck!

You might consider writing the paper in your native language then translating it to turn in. Good luck!

To:Stark 2002These are all good questions and a lot of food for thought. You could begin simply by going to the dictionary and looking up some basics. Look up health, then environmental health, then nurse patient roles and so on. Even something as simple as what is a patient? Just the word "patient". Keep adding more as you go along ( more compounding of the same words.) Such as nursing roles and the role of the bedside nurse. You will find a wealth of info and more than you ever wanted. It will start you thinking and get you going. If you make it a game it will almost be fun...sort of. But that's a good way to think of it and maybe a good way to get started. Good luck. Read,read,read...you'll do great!

I am sorry but if you cannot understand these questions, since you are from a different country, how did you get through your pre-req's to get into a nursing program? I am not trying to be snarky, but these questions are nothing compared to what's coming curriculum wise.Nursing is all about finding your resources to get the job done. This is almost like going on facebook to ask for advice on homework. Use the internet like other posters have said if you cannot come up with an answer for "what is nursing".

I agree that they are looking for for yourthoughts and reflections of nursing, for each topic. The internet is a great place to start.
