Any in a field of nursing you love?

Hi,

I'm exploring different areas of nursing that may be less hectic than med-surg/tele. Anyone in a different field that they love?
I was going to say Emerg because I do love it, but if you're looking for something less hectic then med surg......maybe go community/public health/home health? Maybe LTC? Geriatric rehab?

I love working with the hospice patients. I have worked both in the inpatient unit and the field and have found both to be rewarding. The unit can be hectic at times but overall the pace is steady but not overwhelming. The patients and families are generally grateful for the care provided and patient : nurse ratio is low enough that I am able to provide the care I never could give in the nursing home setting.

ICU....but it's DEFINITELY more hectic than M/SMaybe home health, rehab, geriatric?

Comment:
Home health isn't hectic, but its not protected. Being in a hospital or even in an LTC means the people you're caring for are expected to behave in a certain way. They don't when they're at home and trust me, this can get in your way. Unsafe environments, abusive situations and potentially your license is on the line when an angry client decides to make something up. No witnesses. It's not a good place for a young Nurse. I made that mistake and don't recommend it.

Ambulatory surgery in a hospital setting. Love it!

I've been in LTC for 15 years. 3 years as a floor nurse and 12 years in different areas of management....Love it

I absolutely love my hospice hospital liaison job. I have spent twenty plus years in the emergency and critical care environment and it was a time for change. The feeling I get from getting someone home to where they want to be and with the people they want to be with when all else fails is the same as when a resuscitation is successful. Of course I also now work for an incredibly supportive company with the resources available to accomplish complicated cases. I have never worked for a better manager either.

Absolutely LOVED ob/mother-baby/nursery, but it's not less hectic...

I switched to psych after working ICU. I love it and actually enjoy going to work again. But do you like the job itself, just don't want to deal with so many patients? Or is there aspects of the job you don't like, besides pace? If it's just handling so many patients, a step down unit of some sort, or ICU or something, where you don't have so many patients may be for you.

I love public health nursing and it's definitely less hectic than hospital nursing!

I cath lab, but it's far from hectic. Hover, it's a fine example of what teamwork really is.
