Man you guys make nursing seem HORRIBLE! If I knew this before school...

2 If I knew nursing was so vindictive, horrible, and crazy like this I would have NEVER entered the nursing program in my school to become an RN.

I am a soon to be finished first year student in an ADN program so I do have SOME clinical experience and know a little bit about real world nursing.

I always thought it would be a decent and respectable career with flexible hours and the chance to actually make a difference. All I see on here is how easy it to lose your job and your license, how burnt out nurses become after the FIRST year and how there's NO camaraderie between nurses.

Makes me want to just get my RN and jump ship and become a CRNA or NP... sheesh!
I know. Tell me about it. How do you think I feel now I'm a nurse?

When you enter the real world of nursing, not as a student and you have all the responsabilites, families, stress, limited anount of time and resources and adminstration pushing more from you then you can come back and tell us how great and rosey eveything is.Nurses come here to vent to someone who understands, we dont usually come here to say how great our job is, (we tell that to our families)

No, what you see are nurses being human. We all have bad days, but we also have good ones. You aren't going to remember the posts that say, "I made a difference today," but you are going to remember clearly those that show another side of nursing, the bad days.There are many great places to work, many days that you impact someone's day in a positive way and tons of great coworkers that you can count on at work for help/a shoulder to cry on/a ear to vent to.It's like anything else in life - but maybe we should post more about the good days, the patient or family that appreciates everything you do and the coworkers that don't leave you out a limb.I love being a RN. I have been a nurse for 18 years and although I have had bad shifts, I wouldn't change what I do for a minute.......(unless I win the lottery and then I will be a retired nurse)...

Well, EVERY job has it's "bad days," but you guys seem to have a LOT more bad days than any other profession or job I've seen. I mean you never hear about this crap going on in other professions (as often or as cutthroat at least).

Floor nursing is hell. Doesn't matter where you work, it sucks. You have the right idea. Get your CRNA or NP and be on your own. It is worth the extra effort and work.

Have you gone to all doctors dot com, or all lawyers dot com and read their stories? believe me, they DO exist.We come here to vent our frustrations because almost ALL of us understand. In the real world, while on the job, we have to keep the smile on our face and keep our mouth shut or face the wrath of our bosses.Yes, there are cuthroat nurses out there. yes there are cut throat teachers/doctors/lawyers.I have good days and bad days...luckily the good ones outnumber the bad ones. Please though, try to not handslap us veterans. when you've worked in the real world a few years, come back and tell us how you REALLY feel then
