Quit nursing home -- update on interview & NCLEX

3 I received a nursing home job as a GN/RN. Lasted very shortly because they were seriously understaffed, LVN preceptor had no time to fully train me because she was so insanely busy, hadn't taken the NCLEX at the time and employers said the job was more important than the NCLEX, etc. And I was NOT going to take care of 20 patients on my own.

I quit. I couldn't risk killing a patient and/or losing my license that quick. I got a call 2 days later for an interview at a hospital. They were doing 20 interviews for 20 job openings. The interview went GREAT. Turned out that I got rejected for the job because they suddenly realized they didn't have enough preceptors for the new grads. Wow, way to think ahead.....

But I did pass the NCLEX.

So that's my update. I'm unemployed again. But that's okay, I guess. I heard places are starting to not accept nursing home experience anyways. And I'm going for my bachelor's degree online starting this fall. So I don't have to feel overwhelmed and stressed with work + school. I can concentrate on my studies. My parents are there for me financially and emotionally.

I am a firm believer of things happen for a reason so don't stress too much about it, when the time comes it will come. I hope everything works out for you!

I would still try to find something in nursing at least part-time. They may or may not consider you a "new grad" after your BSN program seeing as your actual nursing school will have been some time ago. Could put you in a difficult place. The BSN program will give you some different skills, but not hands on nursing stuff.......

I understand completely. However, things may change so keep trying toget something in the interim.My fear for you is that if you do nothing nursing wise while you are doing the RN to BSN they will not consider you a new grad because your basic nursing skills/education would have been a while ago. I only bring it up because I read somewhere that this had been an issue for someone. I just cannot remember where!

There is nothing rational about how hiring managers think.... Hiring managers take really look at how long since you have been out of actual nursing school when you did clinicals and were actively learning the nuts and bolts of acute care nursing. They want that to be recent.I am sure it will all work out fine for you. I was trying to be helpful. I am sorry that it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Maybe they will not notice the disparity between when you graduated nursing school and when you got your BSN. Also, maybe the whole hiring outlook may change by then. I am sure you will have a long and awesome career.

You go 123 ... I made the same decision. I applied for a management position to a company that has the type of facilities I worked for for 11 years but I was rejected for the job. I am never really sure about anything but I was sure I could really do this job, i knew I would work hard at it. I feel kind of bummed, for some reason I felt like I could really do the job with my experience, but I guess they see differently. It still hurts though being rejected...well thats my story,i know its different from yours...but like you I am going back to school, I told my family if I dont get this job then I am going back to school and get my BSN!!
