What kind of clamp to use in clamping a foley catheter? (for bladder training )

Can you suggests something I can use safely to clamp a foley catheter for patients undergoing bladder training??

I had a patient undergoing bladder training, he has a suprapubic catheter and was undergoing bladder training. I used a metal clamp forcep but then the catheter (w/c was made of silicone material)was torn in two. so we had to reinsert a new one immediately before the opening close!

I kink the clear plastic tube leading to the bag and hold it with a rubberband. I hope this helps.:wink2::wink2:

rubberband...Yes, I've tried that too but still some urine is still leaking through it so the clamping seems ineffective, that's why I used a metal clamp.

oh, also an Umbilical cord clamp will sometimes work. (if you work in a hospital setting and can get one!)

You can also try rubber-shod Kelly clamps or hemostats, the same that you'd use to clamp a chest tube.

"the same that you'd use to clamp a chest tube."Yikes! don't even say that!!! we have one surgen that if he finds clamps even in the room of one of his chest tube patients, will bring them out and throw them at the nurses station! He doesn't even want to hear the *C* word when it comes to one of his chest tubes.

If I need to clamp a foley, I'll use a hemostat with a folded gauze square between the hemostat and the tubing, so I don't damage the tubing.

Are foley clamps still around? They were little clamps specific for foleys.
