Nursing caps

Hay all I have a question my mother was an LPN and there is a photo of her wareing her white cap it would have been taken between 1960-1972 she passed away last year and I still can not find that cap anywhere there is no way she would have trash it .

So can some one tell me if you get to keep them or where they just used for photos at graduation ?
I think they kept them and wore them, I've seen them on ebay.

photos at graduation is the only time I wore mine and that was 1979. I have no idea where it is now.

We wore them for capping & graduation (this year. My school liked/likes tradition.) We had to purchase our own caps and of course we got to keep them. The "keepsake box" the store wanted to sell us cost more than the hat.

My class was the first one to opt out of the caps. Our class was the first one to get a choice. Before that it was mandatory that the grad. pictures were with hats. Didn't really matter to me except I thought it ridiculous to add one more cost for an item nobody would ever use.

in the 60's she surely had her own and wore it for work on a daily basis. Maybe it was lost but it might even be folded flat somewhere and kept in an envelope or folder! If you want you could try contacting the alumni association of her school to get a new one- my alumni association easily provides them since the school still gives them to grads, my friend's school is long closed but the AA gives (free!) them to families who want one for their loved one's funeral. You might be able to get one there or contact Kays Caps in Brooklyn. They made most school's caps in that time-frame and keep all the patterns so they can replicate them.

We wore our caps throughout clinicals. I kind of miss it.

Contact the school she graduated from. Each school has it own style of cap, at least they used to, back when we wore them. When we bought one, we had to specifically request the "cap from our college." Maybe they will know where you can order one. Good luck.

I used to wear one at one time!I had one stored in my cedar chest for years but finally threw it away, they were washable but would get really yellow and dingy looking over time.

I had to wear one during clinicals EXCEPT in psych (street clothes) and ortho/neuro- they didn't want us graceful, 'confident' nursing students to hang ourselves in the overhead trapeze and traction set ups (we looked SO dorky in our light brown pinstripe pantsuits or dresses- like really, really inept- and like some diner just dumped a slew of waitresses....not pretty)..... mine is in a plastic carrying case- somewhere.

i still have mine.....although it drove me crazy. i was really proud of it. i still have mine. my husband made me a display case for my nursing cap, nursing pin, nightengale candle holders and certificate from the state i graduated in. we only wore ours for capping and graduation.
