Independent nursing providing physicals.

Hello! It's been a long, long time since I've been here. Life got in the way, and I'm currently an unemployed RN who is a SAHM.

My daughter goes to daycare part time. The center asked if I would be interested in performing physicals for the employees once a year. The employee would pay me directly. I've seen the worksheet they use, and it's barely even a physical, just seeing if they can perform job duties. I can handle that, and I can handle performing physicals.

But how does this work? Can I just work independently like that? I would not be employed by the center directly. It would be nice to earn some extra cash on such a flexible schedule.

If I sound clueless, it's because I am, so please don't flame me. My friend google has been no help.
Are you an APN? You might want to check with your professional liability malpractice carrier. Declaring someone fit for duty is likely out of the scope of practice for a RN. More likely within the scope of a midlevel (NP, PA) or physician.

I agree that fitness for duty interpretation is probably out of the scope of an RN.OP, consider too, the tax/financial implications of self-employment. Tons of info for self-employed folks/contract employees on the IRS website.
