How to become a state board nursing member?

Does anyone know where I would look for information about becoming a member of a state board of nursing? I live in Maine and have looked through the Maine state board of nursing site, but I do not see any information about how to become a member. I did notice that there are 4 members who's terms have expired and that there are 2 vacant seats? Any help would be appreciated.
In nearly all US states, the members of the board are appointed by the governor. NC is the one exception to that -- the governor appoints the non-nurse, "at large" members of the board, but the nurse board members are elected by the nurses of NC.So, other than NC, if you want to get appointed to the BON, it helps to be a friend of the governor.
