New Grad Non-Floor Nursing?Rating: (votes: 0) I'm the bread winner and I know I'll take a massive paycut, but I don't feel like I can continue with things the way they are. I know most people want a year or 2 of floor experience, but I miss my family (7 on, 7 off, 4 days of which are recovery, nights) and wouldn't mind a pay cut as long as I could support my family and make my house and bill payments. Maybe I'm just venting but any advice you have would be great. Thanks in advance! You don't have to make a move now, but if you are feeling dragged down, start looking around and see what is available for the types of jobs you might like better. What is there? Experience requirements? Pay?The type of hospital you work in affects the number and type of non-bedside jobs. When I worked in a small hospital, management was all there was for non-bedside hospital jobs. Now I work in a large teaching hospital where we have lactation consultants, transplant coordinators, nursing educators, wound-ostomy nurses and an IV team. These positions do require experience and often special certification, but in the future you might work toward one of theses jobs. Comment:
If you don't mind patient care, why not look into Private Duty Nursing? (There is a separate forum here on AN devoted to PDN: Private Duty Nursing Forum )Pay is typically lower than hospital pay, but the schedule can be tailored to your availability, and the politics are minimal.
