New to Trauma Nursing

Hello everyone. I recently accepted a night shift position on a Surgical- Trauma Unit at a Level 1 Trauma hospital. I wanted to know if there were any surgical trauma nurses out there and if had any advice for someone new to this specialty. I became an RN a yr ago and have been working in LTC. I so glad I have this opportunity to expand my knowledge base. Any information about this specialty would be great
Congrats on your new job. It's a very interesting place to work. I began my career in a Neuro-Trauma ICU.... LOVED it. i like working with trauma patients because they can heal and get well!! Much more satisfying (to me) than dealing with chronically ill medical patients. The trauma population tends to be younger & primarily male - a reflection of the "hey y'all, watch this" (in my part of the country, at least) mentality that was the root cause for their admission perhaps? Again, a more lively 'fun' patient demographic. Have fun & learn lots.
