Nursing in North CarolinaRating: (votes: 0) I am a nursing student here in NC, originally from Philadelphia, PA. I wanted to get some feedback from fellow nurses down here before I choose my specialty. I KNOW I want to get my Masters, however I am torn between three different specialties. I wanted to find out if anyone works in either of these, and can give me feedback to help me narrow down my choices. Nurse Midwife - this has been my DREAM, however the hours are crazy because labor is unpredictable! Nurse Practitioner - This would possible give me the most "normal" hours, as I could possible get into a MD's office. Nurse Anesthesia - I was told be my brother in law/an MD that this would give me the most return for my $$ and study spent. HELP! Why not post in the North Carolina forum? Comment:
Why is it so hard for students to post their questions in the correct forum?

How far are you in your nursing program now? I would focus on graduating, then going to bedside nursing to get a feel for what you like, then think about grad school.CRNA is going to require at least a year of ICU experience to apply, but you'll want at least 3 I believe to be competitive.NP you could theoretically go straight into for some program, but personally I would want to go in with some bedside experience and actual paid experience as a registered nurse, but that's just me.I'm not interested in CNM so I couldn't tell you a lot about what you would want to look into to prepare yourself. Also, fellow nursing student in NC from Philly as well :-)
