9 YEAH!
Count me in the list of new grads now EMPLOYED! Graduated May 15th, 2010...passed NCLEX June 23rd....offered job July 8th. Now after all the pre-employment stuff (drug screen, vaccs, physical, background, etc) It is official!! Very blessed & thankful.

I was discouraged earlier this year when I had bad experiences with job fairs! Now I work for one of the hospitals whose recruiter said "We aren't hiring new grads for any reason, under NO circumstances!"

I showed him!!
Good Luck to those still in search. Last edit by jojo10 on Jul 17, '10 : Reason: more info

I'm enjoying 100+ temps in Oklahoma! You'd think after spending my entire life here, I'd be used to the heat haha As far as job stuff, networking is key. "Who you know" won't get you the job, but it might get you past HR! I stayed in touch with my instructors and also nurses I met through clinicals, & made quite a few really productive connections that way.I'll be working in spinal cord injury rehab. Should be challenging and rewarding. Really excited and nervous to start!

Congratulations!!this is encouraging news. at this point in job hunt i needed that great news.. i finished school in december 09.. took nclex in feb.. passed on first try...and since then been looking for JOB!.. searching...applying... and getting rejected has made me question why did i even go to school for nursing.. maybe i should have become a school teacher etc etc etc.. but just like those countless nights of studying for exams etc. i know i will get the icing on the cake soon. im keeping my head up and pray something will come eventually.. FYI i am doing agency nursing and they placed me at an adult day care program for like 5 days out of july.. its something i guess to get me started.. but i want that dream job and benefits God knows i have loans to pay back..

Congratulations!! I to was just offered a Med/ Surg position and I graduated August of '09. I've been working part time in a nursing home since Dec. In the Northeast hospitals are just not hiring new grads. I too feel incredibly lucky & grateful. I think the director who interviewed me said it best when she said that she remembers being a new grad years ago & having no luck getting into a hospital and then she said " you just need someone to give you a chance to become a great nurse". I think that's how we all feel. Hopefully this is the beginning of a turn around on the job front. I wish all my fellow new grads luck in their search. Hang in there!! Good things do come to those who wait.

Great!!! I am so glad to hear that. I am just starting nursing school but I am already nervous about the New Grad prospects. How did you get hired? Share, share, share! Where all did you apply?

Great advice.

Awesome! This week, I'm hoping to join you in your success as I await hearing whether or not I'm going to be hired for my dream job. If I get it, it will have been worth the nearly 1-year post-graduation wait to begin working.

Good Luck Everyone!I think keeping up with contacts is important, even just a quick email update or to say hello. If you can talk to a real person, it can get you in the door and past that HR screening program! I got a lot of rejection emails and postcards before landing this job! Honestly, Oklahoma isn't as bad off as other states. We have openings but things are a little tight for new grads- a lot of hospitals cut their residency programs this year. Hang in there!!
