If you were to make reasons to not go into nursing, what would they be?

When I interviewed a nurse, his number one reason was MONEY.
1. Money

What are some additional reasons?
Politics of institutions> I became a nurse to advocate and help my patientnot to advocate and help corporations. Becoming more difficult to find thoselittle niches where you can practice good holistic nursing.

Don't go into nursing expecting gratitude or appreciation. You are going to get yelled at and insulted by staff, patients and family just for doing your job. And don't nurse because you want to help people feel better; sometimes you are going to hurt them. You are going be poking pieces of steel into them, tubes into every orifice, making them move when they don't wanna, and won't always be able to control pain.

You shouldn't go into Nursing if....+ You think your too good to clean up after someone!+ You think that all you have to do is pass meds. all day!My personal pet peeve is nurses who think that now that their done with school that means they will never have to clean someone up again and that they are too good to do that kind of work. Obviously this isn't every nurse but you will be surprised how many nurses do think that about themselves.!Chris

Lack of respect...........

Don't... if you're a very sensitive and empathetic person. I had a friend who was so distraught and cried uncontrollably after NICU rotation. Sure, you can choose to work at a less stressful place but there are always heart-breaking circumstances that other professions don't normally encounter, no matter where you practice nursing.Hopefully, we learn to put a healthy distance but remain sympathetic, but it doesn't happen with everyone, and those poor souls end up wrecking themselves.

If you get sick or injured, even as the result of the job, don't expect to get any support from management. They will treat you like a malingerer and don't be surprised if you get accused of faking your illness just to get drugs.

The only nursing shortage is a shortage of experienced RN's. Good luck finding a job when you graduate.

dealing with the issues of other women and the endless catfights! wish there were more men so i had more sensible conversational oppurtunities instead of the latest hair/makeup/boyfriend/husband/pregnancy/kid/she said " "/ and the other endless junk. how about intelligent conversations about the advance of medicine and genetics as it pertains to our scientific based nursing care on our floor? oh wait, then you would have to read and maybe . . . gasp, study !!! oh it truly felt better to get that out! thanks!
