advice on best job for fairly new grad

I have been out of RN school for a year and have been working private duty homecare. I enjoy the job alot but there are no benefits and few skills involved. Ive been offered a position in a hospital either PCU progressive care (adults) or Ortho and I am debating on the position. I worked 2 years as a Med/Surg LVN and hated it. I wonder if I will get another opportunity even close to this again though because hospital jobs are hard to find in my area with no RN experience. As with many others I had wanted to work in ER, NICU but as we know its virtually impossible. The salary is about the same for both the job Im working at and the one Im considering. Any advice please give me your opinion and/or personal experiences.
Is it possible for you to spend a day on each unity before you decided? The you could see which one you liked better.

Speaking from the standpoint of searching for a hospital job myself, I would say go for the position. It gets your foot in the door to doing what you want to do.

Just go for it. You may like it. Since you are a RN, the role developments are different. You may enjoy the PCU.

Well, getting a job at a hospital would give you benefits in addition to the pay, and it's very easy once you get in to transfer to a different floor after 6-12 months. As a previous poster mentioned, shadowing for a day would be a good way to help you decide.

I haven't worked in the hospital setting, but some of the LPNs in my class work the Ortho unit, and it is HARD work. Very physically demanding unit. They are going back for their RNs to try to get off this unit, as they have had no luck in transferring. Something to consider.
