Offered a New Grad Job but was told on hold.......

3 I recently went to a job fair and while there I interviewed and was offered a new grad position. I was SO excited when this happened. I called my family and went and bought scrubs and shoes. Then I called the HR department to get the process going and was told my offer was on hold because they "forgot to interview internal candidates". So now I have to go and interview again and what happens? A job I was offered is taken away and here I go again. I want this job. I also need this job. Does anyone have any advice?
Thats not right! Did you sign a contract? They should have not done this to you and why would their be new grads looking for jobs within? It seems weird to me. Sorry this really sucks

Ugh. I am so sorry that happened to you! I am in a similar situation, I got bumped to the next cohort & was offered an NA job in the meantime (which pays less than what I make now and is 8 months away!) I really feel like we are getting taken advantage of due to the job market. Did you even get an offer in writing? If not , you are at their whim and have to kind of smile & bend over backwards for them until they give you a yay or nay. THEN you must ask for it in writing. I am currently waiting to see if they will give me the "guarantee" of the spot in the spring in writing. If they wont, I might have to bail. They teach us in nursing school, if it is not documented, it didnt happen. I think this goes for job offers, job promises, and HR dealings as well.

My advice is to apply elsewhere. Chances of being selected instead of internal candidates is low.

It sounds to me like one of those "someone knew somone" type of deals, and they said their son/daughter/cousin/ nephew/neighbors/best friend wanted the job. There is a lot of "who you know" type of job placements these days.

What a sticky situation. I've got my fingers crossed for you.Just an FYI - I work in an HR department and in most instances the department that has the opening does the hiring and interviewing, not HR, so it isn't fair to blame HR for this mistake. I'm almost certain you are looking at nursing recruiters or department managers at the job fair, so I would place the blame with them. After all, they would be the ones to interview the internal candidates and choose who to offer the job to. I would keep this in mind if you ever run into the HR department again because they will certainly remember rude applicants - THAT may affect your ability to get a job in the future.Best of luck!

The person who offered me the position was the Head of the New Grad program. They have been nothing but nice and I have been in return. I am just frustrated at the situation with being a new grad and jobs so scarce for us.

Just remember this: its not official until you sign with HR and complete all paper works. Verbal agreements mean nothing. Don't get your hopes up until that happens.
