Have any of you seen the new Nursing commercial running on tv ? It's put out there by Johnson & Johnson and it is really good. What did you think of it ?

I first saw that commercial two years ago when the hospital I worked at as an intern (non-nursing related at the time) received a screening copy. It is a very inspiring commercial and heart-touching.

I think the J&J ads are misleading. They may inspire people to go into nursing, but they cannot inspire them to stay. They need to concentrate more on retention than recruiting. If current nurses were happier in their jobs, we may not need to recruit so much.

I don't know what the new one is like, but if it's anything like the old ones I won't be able to stand it. http://allnurses.com/forums/f8/cadbu...al-256390.html

give me a break johnson and johnson only want to push those nursing adds to push their anti micro hand soap for nurses. hell, give me a few bucks and i'll get clean cut and stand in front of the camera too. it's really just another company out there trying to make a buck off us and the proffession, heck they'd put md's in those comercials instead of us but their reserch dept. knows that nurses use more soap and do most of the ordering for all the nursing units and clinics. and besides nurses are cheaper.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1-uMKg86CkIs this the one? I hadn't seen it until now. It is better than some of the cheesy ones I've seen.Or should I say it is marginally less cheesy than some I've seen.

Quote from sistermikeIt is up to hospitals and other places of employment to focus on retention of their nurses.

The only thing thats going to help RETAIN nurses is higher pay, more respect from doctors, patients, families and management, and better nurse patient ratios. Not some commercial.....

The newest J&J ads do feature real nurses, "Boston" I believe. They are also a dramatic improvement from the previous "feel good" commercials. I will give J&J credit for listening to the very accurate feedback on the previous series of commercials that failed to represent anything close to nursing life.

Has anyone noticed that virtually all of the nurses that appear in the Johnson & Johnson commercials tend to be very good-looking, fresh-faced, smiling, mostly youthful, hip, well-groomed, and almost glamorous? In reality, how many of us look that wonderful at the end of a 12-hour or 16-hour shift? At the end of my shifts, my eyes are red and tired, my makeup has worn off, my scrubs may have gotten some bodily fluids on them, my hands are dry after so many hand washings, and my hair might be out of place. After a day's work, the bedside has done a number on me!

As a burned out nurse, looking for a career change, I love the new commercials, and I am so happy that a media outlet has finally said something positive about us. I don't care if they want me to by hand sanitizer or any other product. After reading some of the comments, I can understand why so many people view us as cranky, bitter nurse Ratched types.
