any schools or hospitals in Alabama that offer living stipend during schoolRating: (votes: 0) I'm not from bama, but, there is absolutely no demand for new nurses, so, I would be in shock if somebody was wanting to pay you to go to nursing school. You should look into postponing your edu, and work for a while to save money if loans are not available, or continue to work while going to school. Comment:
Can you work reduced hours and take out student loans? That's what I'm doing and so far so good.

There is a grant program that was established by the U.S. Department of Labor exclusively for careers in high demand. This grant covers tuition, books, supplies, and transportation. It can only be used during the professional component of nursing education, but it is well worth it. There are some qualification factors, which are mostly regarding income limits and certain competencies that you must demonstrate, as far as basic math and reading. In Alabama, (Roll Tide!, btw) you have to contact an Alabama career center in your county. Here are some links that will help. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you are in Montgomery, Baptist hospitals have some scholarships available. I do know that at one time, they would pay for your schooling if you signed a two year contract with them. I'm not sure if that is available anymore. Their website is baptistfirst.org. Once you go to the website, go to foundation and then scholarships.

I seriously doubt that any facility is offering either sign-on bonuses or living stipends in this economy. Nurses are a dime a dozen and there is no pressing need to subsidize anyone's education.
