Heads Up: Only Hiring Nursing Grads from NLNAC or CCNE Accredited Programs

My GF just graduated from a private nursing school. *ITT*. They have a decent enough program but they are not yet NLNAC accredited.

She has worked as a tech at a major hospital in my area for 2.5 years and was essentially promised an RN position once she graduated.

Well, just days ago they told her they would not be hiring her because her school was not NLNAC or CCNE accredited.

As it turns out, most of the najor hospitals in our area have adopted this policy....

Caveat Emptor.....
that's a shame. I'm sure the program cost her a bundle too!

That is not uncommon at all. Every job posting I've seen states that the applicant must be a graduate of an accredited program. Shame on that school for not educating it's students about that tidbit.

Comment:
That's unfortunate but that's usually how it works.

Same in my area. I am assuming thats why none of the tech schools here (itt, kaplan..) Offer an RN program. I also believe you can't work for the VA hospitals anywhere.Maybe your girlfriend can get into an nln or ccne approved RN to BSN program and get a job at a hospital after that.

Comment:
Not to be rude but this is something she should have researched prior to forking out a motherload of cash.

Comment:
I'm surprised she didn't know that. That's one of the first things one should check before enrolling in a program.

Comment:
It is sad. So many colleges mislead you on this topic. Most people do not understand the importance of the accreditation of your school.

IIRC, ITT has the accreditation of whatever agency accredits "career colleges". AFAIK, that's it as far as accreditation goes. And they're hella expensive.
