The coveted Monday thru Friday job

1 I have worked Monday-Friday for the majority of my 18 years as a LPN and am tired of it. Right now I am a MDS Nurse, but have asked to go to the floor (Long story, but in a nutshell the MDS gig is an absolutely horrible job) where I will work 32 hours a week and will be required to work every other weekend. I want to cut back my hours some so this is ideal for me.

In my opinion, five days in a row is tough to do in a LTC facility whether you have an office job or work the floor. When I did have jobs that broke up the week I liked it. I liked having that week day or two off to actually do things.

I will have to work some holidays but getting off at 3p, that won't be so bad.

So how about the rest of you? If you don't already, do you long to work Mon-Fri.? Or do you like having a day or two off during the week?
Whatever pays me the most. I live for shift differentials and OT.

I despise mondays and where i work now we make our own schedules....so no or very few mondays for me. Gud luck OP glad u found your happiness

I would never yearn to work Monday through Friday unless I was about to become homeless. The thought of working five days per week is hellish.I loved working the weekend double shift in LTC. I would work a 16 hour shift on Saturday, another 16 hour shift on Sunday, then have Monday through Friday off. Five days off in a row, to me, is a heck of a lot better than being forced to work five days in a row.

I had a temporary Monday through Friday teaching gig, and the only thing that got me through it is the fact that I knew it was temporary. I LOVED the teaching, but the Monday through Friday nearly killed me. I was recently offered a case management job, and turned it down. I don't want to give up my 3 12s a week! Working nights, weekends and holidays -- all preferable to Monday-Friday!

I'm 4 on/5 off and like it a lot. I feel like a slave to work for those 4 days but it's like getting a mini vacation every week!

I almost work Monday-Friday (I take off Wednesdays because of church). The only way this is doable to me is because I work nights.I honestly don't know how Mon-Fri day people get anything done. When do they go to doctor appointments? Have work done on their homes? Take care of things like driver's license renewals (I have to do it in person this year and they are only open Mon-Fri).I had actually applied for a Mon-Fri day position recently and about panicked when I realized what I was about to get myself into. Thankfully I didn't get the job!

I went from working 3 12s a week for several years, to working 4 9s (mostly days, but one evening a week and on call every 4th weekend) for two years, and now for the last several months I've worked an clinic job, 8-5 M-F. I would vastly prefer to work 7-5:30 x 4 days a week, but that's not an option. I find it really frustrating when I have to do things like schedule kids' doctor or dentist appointments - I have to plan it months in advance, take an entire day off, and plan the logistics of getting these things done all in one day for three kids. Right now, one of my kids is seeing a counselor, which means I have to take 3 hours off once a week in order to take her there. If I had one day off each week, I could schedule her appointments on my day off. I do, however, enjoy NO OT, NO ON CALL, and NO HOLIDAYS.

I have the M-F gig for years now. I have one weekend half shift about every 6-8 weeks. I have maybe one holiday a year to be in the building. I am fortunate in that I can move my start/end time as needed for appointments/needs/etc...The last two jobs I have had have been flexible as my position is not so time sensitive from performing the tasks.I had 20 years of the traditional schedule, I like this gig.

I have a job that required me to be a licensed RN, but I do extremely little that has any to do with actual nursing. I work Mon-Fri. It's pretty nice but sometimes hard to take care of assorted chores and errands during the week. I get lucky though in that if my lunch hour lasts longer due to personal commitments that no one gripes as long as the work gets done.
