New Grad in Psych - Career Mobility?

Rating:
(votes: 0)

After working nearly 20 years in Psych as a counselor, I accepted a job in as a Psych Nurse when I graduated last May. I'm concerned that I may get stuck in this field if I don't get more experience on a more traditional medical floor. Should I be concerned? How difficult is it to change specialities?
Thats a great question, and one I would be interested in hearing the answer to also! Thanks. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.
Comment:
The degree of difficulty usually depends on how bad they need nurses where you apply. If they have 20 RN positions and only 10 applicants, they will more than likely hire you since you have the license and can be trained. Often it's a difficult adjustment because hospitals don't always give you the same orientation they would a new grad, which is what you would need. Good luck.
