Email vs phone followup

I had an interview late last week and it's time for me to follow up. Judging from the lack of response I'm feeling a little defeated once again. I'm worried if I call I'll lose my purpose and start rambling, but I'm also worried if I email it will be ignored. I also put in an app cold but want to follow up and can't decide on that either. Help!
It is more difficult to ignore you if you are on the phone.
True, but she didn't answer so I had to leave a message. Even easier to ignore. Now I'm trying to figure out if I should call her in a few days or let it go since she hasn't called back (only been a few hours though.)
