Vent: Why so many local threads started in General Nursing

19 I have noticed a recent trend here at Allnurses. I seem to be seeing a lot of local threads started in the General Nursing Forum and it's starting to get on my nerves I feel like I have to scroll past many posts that belong in the State Forums to get to anything related to general nursing. These posts are really cluttering up our main forum. Appears to be new posters in particular. So please, please new posters, if you want to know the wages in Atlanta post to the Georgia Forum or if you want to know about XYZ school in Chicago, post to the Illinois Forum. Pretty please with sugar on top
It does seem to be picking up, doesn't it? What makes me laugh is how folks use acronyms or nicknames for a school or facility that they're asking about. That big ol bunch of capital letters means absolutely nothing to me and I have no idea what what you're asking!

Thank you! This has been bothering me for a while now. Also the "should I be a nurse" questions...and "anyone take X at X school"?Makes me nutsy.

People are lazy. Simply report the thread as inappropriate or off topic to forum and the staff will move to the right place. My least favorite are title "anyone take bint12344 at xycbccc with awesome. Helllllpppppp me pllllllzzzzz!!!!!!" Body is "well?"And "tell me what my homework answers are" "I'm brooookkkkkeee plz send me free PDF of the copyrighted texts and study guides you paid for and your user name and password for Kaplan and Hurst" when told no, u r a mean h8r,!

Comment:
there are also a whole bunch of new threads in the "post graduate" section (DNP, FNP MSN are supposed to be the targets) from people wanting to know about XYZ school, too.

Comment:
Yup, its that time of the year again.

I just logged on again and there are at least 5 more! Alright, who's funning with us here?

I read this post then right after there were TWO post exactly like this. I felt like I was in the twilight zone!

I agree. Forums for clinical issues should not be cluttered with school, NCLEX and job inquiries. If the post is in the wrong forum, use the yellow triangle and write " wrong forum. " Some members respond without noticing and that leads to some confusion for new posters.Home work questions belong in the nursing student assistance forum. Some members have the patience to read and answer those questions. I generally do not. The single sentence questions about effecting change in an organzation, and "what do you want from your administration" are the sign of a student who has put forth no thought or effort and wants to compile posts from random strangers as her original work. Employment, resume and interview questions belong in the career forum. There are even a forums for pre-nursing students and one for first year after nursing licensure.

I guess if no one responds, they drop down/off as new posts are posted. best we can do is ignore them and they go away (the posts-not the poster)

Thank you for the feedback.New members are hesitant to post and the General Nursing forum just seems like the logical place to start. As stated above, if you think a thread is TOS or needs relocating, or you are just not sure, but think Staff should be aware, please do click the triangle lower left of any post, send a report w/rationale, and Staff will address the report. As for threads about XYZ nursing program, etc., if the member posted in a Student forum, that is o.k., does not need to be re-located, and need not be reported unless, again, you have concerns.Duplicates posts? Please report.Posting threads in more than one forum? Please report.Member not a Nurse and needs a name change? Please report.Blatant spammer .... please report. We do ask, however, when you report, do not engage on the boards as this makes Staff job a little harder especially if it's a spammer. All this does is boost the spammer's thread to the top of a forum for the whole world to see. Report and Staff will take care of the spammer ASAP.Again, thanks for the feedback.
