Supervisors FB Friends with Staff?Rating: (votes: 0) I don't really believe there is an ethical issue, but um.......... common sense issue for the subordinates?Do you really want to put up that facebook status of being hungover then make a call-in to work and say that your car battery died? Comment:
Yes. I'm a supervisor and have learned by experience...........no work "friends" on FB...........period
Comment:
Yeah, I wonder what people that friend their supervisors are thinking. Not only do I not friend them, I block them.
Comment:
Oh heck no. FB is where you let your hair down. No matter how good a friend you are with your supervisor, your just asking for trouble. As the saying goes "Don't s#!t where you eat."

You can like your boss and be friendly but do not 'friend " them on facebook. Just wrong on so many fronts. And bosses should not accept friends from workers. Just asking for trouble.

I think it depends. If you use Facebook for professional networking, it is probably OK. If it is just a social tool for you, probably better to pass on adding supervisors/administrators to your network. Sue

Asking for trouble. I am very picky about who I friend from work,

I have it where people can't even SEARCH me on facebook. ONLY friends can see anything I put on there not friends of friends nothing. and I went through and filtered all of the people I don't know/don't talk to anymore....I don't want anyone seeing things about me or the things I do on my free time, it's none of their business.

I used to be FB friends with my supervisor until I found out that she was using other staff's FB accounts as a way to nail them for various things. I set my account differently, and she no longer has access to my news feed, my postings or pictures. I didn't want to completely block her, so I simply tightened up my settings. In the future, I will not friend anyone in a supervisory position. I am also very careful about which friends have access to what information.

I personally don't think you should be friends with supervisors (even if they're not ur direct supervisor) unless you guys were already bff's prior to them being a supervisor. I have co-workers as friends on fb, but I have all of them added to my "work" list just in case I really didn't want work to see/know something. In general, I kep what I say regarding work to the bare minimum. As, someone else mentioned earlier, blocking them is a good idea. Better safe than sorry.

It depends on if you want your supervisor to have access to all your posts & info. If not, then no big deal. If yes, then don't be "friends". Also, there's tons of people on FB that have hundreds of friends. Are they really close to ALL of those hundreds? No. It's not like if you're FB friends that automatically means your best friends. It all comes down to what you're comfortable with that person seeing and reading, like "jollydogg" said, don't be posting how hungover you are then call in sick. I'm FB friends with co-workers, my supervisor, and the surgeons i work for and it's never been a problem.
