Already an LPN would that give me a leg up if I went to school to be a surgical techRating: (votes: 0) ![]() All the surgery techs I know are LPN's trained as techs after being hired into the OR. They've all been working OR for years. Comment:
I seriously doubt that your nursing license would cause your employer to pay you more. After all, you will still be a new surgical tech, just like everyone else who graduates from the program. Now, if there were a position that required LPN/Surgical Tech, then that position would likely pay more because there's something in that position that requires a nursing license.

i agree with roser13, i don't think it would give you an advantage as you are not progressing in your nursing education, rather you are switching to a different career.in my area they have been getting rid of scrub nurses(RNs) and hiring surgical techs instead, because they earn less, thus the hospitals save money that way. scrub techs make a bit less than LPNs here.
